Advice On Using A Christian Executive Coach

By Katy Parfait

Christian leaders do just that - lead others, with the purpose of executing a vision. Those who lead and who are visionaries may not be particularly good as strategies and executing those strategies. This is where staff is hired to fill in those gaps and provide the missing pieces. A Christian Executive Coach is someone whose purpose is to fill voids in the lives of the leaders, serving a number of purposes as they push forward in their goals.

Though leaders are dedicated to their respective organizations, they, too, have multi-dimensional lives that are important outside of the organization. Leaders have families, friendships and communities that make up the greater whole. One purpose of having a coach is to help create a balance in every aspect of one's life at any given time. The coach will be able to remind the individual about this broader vision.

Secondly, your coach can be your motivation. Primary leaders lead; but, they lead alone. No one is there to make sure they do their job.

If a leader does not show up or fails to do that which he or she is supposed to do, then the organization is likely to suffer and therefore the vision suffers. It is impossible for an individual to be switched on at all times. As such, a coach acts as an alarm to challenge, motivate and direct as necessary.

A coach also provides a wise listening ear. So many ideas come to a leader at once, but some ideas should never be realized. Coaches will be able to determine what works from what doesn't; what serves you and will push the vision and what will hinder you. Though many people don't like to hear their ideas aren't good, as a leader, it is necessary to have someone say so.

Your Christian Executive Coach is an investment you are making in your success. Use them strategically to keep you on course with your objectives. They are your safety net.
