Woodstock will always be known for the music festival which began at a time when there were a lot of problems in the country. On a farm, just a kilometer away from the town, young people were fighting for freedom. This was time to remember. However, Woodstock NY travel guide also consists of ways in which you are able to take advantage of the beauty and the nature of this part of the world. There is a lot more to know about this area than the festival.

Many people are surprised that the area is not just about the festival dating back to the late sixties. There is so much more to this beautiful area than this. You can find out about a couple of trails heading into the mountains. If you want to explore your spiritual side, you may want to take a walk to the monastery. Many people come here just to spend time here.

People go and support musicians, no matter whether they are well known or not. A lot of people are not looking to make it in the big arena. They just want to play for the locals who they usually know. They will play a couple of tunes and have a few beers with their friends afterwards.

There are some great little pubs to go to which are run by the locals. For folk who like to people watch, this is a great spot to start off at. There are also some bistros run by aged hippies, serving things like waffles, omelettes and other veggie delights. This is something to enjoy as well. There are more gourmet treats which you can find in other parts of town as well.

Don't miss out on the center for photography. This is a gallery which is in fact nonprofit. There are many speakers who come here on a regular basis. It is a good idea to plan your trip based on the speaker who comes here during the year because it can be worth your while. Back in the day, musicians such as Bob Dylan and Joan Baez used to perform here.

There is plenty of entertainment. This doesn't include clubs and nightlife, but focuses on the culture which is appreciated by people who come to Woodstock. Apart from the music and the art, folk also enjoy the theater. There is some great outdoor seating to watch open air theater as well.

As you meander through different parts of the town, you will still feel the vibe and the atmosphere that was once present in the sixties and the seventies. You don't find this in many other towns. It is often the people, the music and the art which bring it back to life. This is what makes it feel so alive.

Most people drive here. However, you can also catch a bus here. You can hire a bike and get around the town on your own. It is small, so you don't need a car. Bethel is the place where the festival took place. It is a kilometer away from the town. This gives you some idea of the distances.
