A Look At PA Clothing Donation

By Frank Sullivan

Giving back to the community can lead to a sense of happiness that will stay with you for the rest of your life. If you are planning on getting involved, consider partnering with some PA clothing donation stores in the local area. You can continue to take over items that you no longer need to help the less fortunate during the trying times of the year.

Choose items to donate that you no longer want. If you have outgrown jeans or khaki pants, you can give them to someone who needs them more. Even if there are certain areas of the jeans that are a bit worn, most charity stores would still like to have them. Because jeans are such a popular item, there is likely to be a never-ending quest to find them.

If you have a history of buying graphic t-shirts but change them out quite often, you can give your old t-shirts to a donation center. This is especially true if you have a bunch of sports shirts sitting around. Because baseball and football shorts are so popular, there will always be someone willing to take them off hands. The same thing applies to sports jerseys with player names on the back.

Leather belts of various sizes will always be useful for people who are looking to go on job interviews. If they have been struggling financially, they might not be able to afford a nice belt. You can help out your fellow community members by donating items that allow them to attend formal interviews and perhaps begin earning a paycheck.

If some of your clothes look a little ragged, check with the donation center to see if they will take them. While small holes will likely be fine, large holes in the knee areas might ruin the article of clothing. Checking with the manager will give you a heads-up and might save you a trip to the donation center with clothes that would not have been taken anyway.

Shoes might also come in handy in certain situations. Many poor people have trouble getting their hands on a good set of shoes that will serve them well. If you have decided to buy a new pair of brand name shoes and want to get rid of your old ones, consider donating them to a good cause. Even shoes that are a bit worn on the inside will still be an improvement for some people.

Always call up the store in question before you take your items over. Some stores will have limited hours on the weekend, and you will want to make sure you do not bring over a big basket of donated clothes without having anywhere to put them. Some locations will, however, have small bins that can be opened from the outside.

You will ultimately want to find a donation center that has a history of helping people in the community. Once you have become involved with giving back, you will likely continue to do it. The sense of satisfaction cannot be matched anywhere else.
