While a bit confusing, a new Self Learning Personal Adventure twelve week long tabletop board game with different themes is on it's way. The designers currently have a GoFundMe page to make it happen with a $10,093 dollar goal and $2,700 already funded. As such, there does appear to be an interest, at least of the 327 whom have donated thus far.
The idea for the new game came about while two individuals were chatting online with others about random things. One suggested it would be fun to send out post cards to people from various and sundry travels with mini-games on the back. Once having designed a post card in this manner, one thing led to another and the creation of the game.
In the game, a series of adventures are to be played out over a twelve week period. In the first week, individuals will create characters, then in the next eleven weeks, small pieces of the game will be released one week at a time. During this time, individuals can begin talking about the game on Facebook by following the Adventure Post page, then clicking follow to begin chatting.
The first week's adventure relates to the work of Richard Garriott in the UDIC community. In this first week of game play, each player has committed a crime against humanity. As a sentence, each player must go through tough mental and physical challenges which will define the person as being their true self.
During the twelve weeks of play, individuals will face a number of moral dilemmas and 8 virtuous questions which will take careful thought out answers. After having answered the questions, individuals will fight a foe based on those answers. Then, at the end of the game, the character and foe will participate in a one on one session of combat. Then, individuals successful in defeating the foe will receive a mantle which had been lost earlier in game play.
One rendition of the board game can be found on the Board Game Geek website. As game creators know new games can be a challenge, the game builders have created a shorter holiday version of the game. The primary reason for creating the holiday version, to show individuals what to expect once the official game and pieces are released. After which, players will already have a grasp on how the game works once the official version is released.
In the holiday teaser, the creators have used on old style dungeon map which had been edited. Whereas, the official game maps will be drawn by professional illustrators at Dark Realm Maps. As such, the official game release will have original maps not subject to copyright infringement.
The creators have also designed a welcome package which contains the 1st two post cards, Character Creation, the first mini-adventure, a custom dice bag with the game logo with four six-sided dice, a plastic pawn and any adventures which are part of the unlocked GoFundMe goals when shipped. As the GoFundMe goals go up, there will be a number of upgrades associated with the package which will either be part of the Welcome Package, or which can be purchased and shipped once the game set is complete.
