By Shirley Sanders

Reaching the retirement age has allowed you to relax and enjoy the fruits of your labor. You finally have the time to travel to places you and your spouse wished before. Each moment is forever immortalized in the photos you took. Once, you saw a friend posting on a website. When you asked him, it made you want to create your own senior travel blog as well.

Blogs are similar to journals but posted online. It is a place where anyone can write about their passion and interests on the web. There are many sites that can support and host your blog. WordPress, Blogger and Tumblr are some of the platforms you can choose from. They have basic settings and features in their sites that are simple and easy to navigate.

To start with, you need to name your blog. Think of one which may be the combination of you and your spouse names. A phrase is also a possible candidate which you have heard from in the places you have travelled. You may even christen it with silly and wacky names. There is no limit in its possibilities.

The rest of the information that the blog will get from you will be easy. You just have to provide them that certain information such as username and password. After that, pick any theme you want. It is important that you know that these blogging platforms are free, unless you want to do a self hosting site.

Various themes and backgrounds are embedded in these platforms. Choose one that best illustrates your taste and personality. Various colors and shapes are usually the go to for bubbly and jolly persons. Coordinated and styles on the other hand are what is suitable to those with calm and sophisticated demeanors.

It is also important that you should remember to choose one that speaks about the overall content of your blog. It must also attract the interest of potential readers. They must immediately know the type of content your blog is posting.

Now that you have finished all of those, your first content is now ready for a write up. It does not have to be full of words. Pictures can relay the content, too. Just add a bit of caption on it so readers know where it was taken and what you were doing.

Your readers might plan to go to that destination someday so including your own recommendations might not be remiss. Put in there what sites to see and what activities they can do. Describe the things you did so they can know your experiences of the place.

When doubt is still in your mind as to how you can develop the blog, you can search for others so you might have an idea as to how you can do yours. Adventures of Empty Nesters, Contented Traveller, and Senior Nomads are some blogs you may visit. You may also enjoy reading their contents, too. These three blogs are created by retired professionals like you.
